The Toronto Star is running my latest video - Egypt’s Faceless Revolution
The past few days I have been making audio interviews with several Egyptian sources about what is happening in the country and in their neighborhoods. Fascinating history unfolding. Will take some time to edit the hours of recorded audio and cut into a story. I probably will turn it into film because I think that subtitles will need to be added to aid comprehension.
DENMARK: Robb Montgomery will be visiting a large media client to design an upgrade to their video studio and to start story planning new documentary films.
You’ll find thematic clips from Erik Wilberg, Lucy Küng, Janet Robinson, Neil McIntosh, Giovanni di Lorenzo and Abdel-Moniem Said. I made many more interviews and hope to edit them in the near future.
It was an intense week for sharing new ideas. The congress was sold out, there were editors from more than 60 countries with many top people engaged in the packed sessions.
I thought I would make a tutorial for how to send a DVD through the Internet.
I am in Germany and need to send a DVD image to Florida for my brother to burn to a playable DVD movie disc. Snail mail and the delays in international customs processing will make for a slow delivery.
The Challenge: Send a 4 GB DVD disc image halfway around the world.
The Solution: This video tutorial that shows how to send a disc image of a DVD using free tools and free file sharing services. (For Mac OSX.)
With a number of prepared modules in his web arsenal, Robb can adjust the content and pacing to suit the audience. This ability worked well for us due to the wide variation of skill levels at our newspaper groups. During a recent trip to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, Robb was an engaging and effective presenter.
MONACO: Mathias Döpfner opened his interview segment at the Monaco Media Forum with the stunning news that the German media giant’s newspaper division is showing a 25.4% profit.
“If print is a dead business, then this kind of death feels pretty comfortable for me.”
No kidding. Springer is riding in the opposite direction of almost every other western media house. Yes, Arianna Huffington is also on stage but is clearly outclassed in this discussion.
Last week I shared some tips for journalists using Twitter in a live Webinar for the World Editors Forum.
One of the examples I showed was how, as a solo video journalist, I was able to generate a lot of traffic and attention to a video report I filed in Cairo.
There is a place where fourth graders will be using Final Cut and every teacher has a multimedia hub as their “desk.” At this urban school, classroom teachers will be filming video documentaries as part of their jobs.
Welcome to Edison Elementary School in Kalamazoo, Michigan: A magnet school with new multimedia production facilities. I recently led a video journalism workshop with a core group of classroom teachers where I taught them how to make effective video reports. (Teachers call training “professional development”)
One of my students, Anthony Gettig, produced this short video report from that week. Listen to the teachers - see the excitement on their faces.
In advance of U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to Egypt June 4, I talk with Egyptians about the president’s first major address from the most populous state in the Arab world and his first from Africa. (The president has made an address from Turkey, but that nation is not part of the Arab League.)
Robb Montgomery produces new media workshops to train journalists and media professionals in more than 20 countries in writing for the Web, multimedia reporting, and Web video journalism.
His hands-on seminars include interactive learning techniques, live demonstrations and expertise in teaching new media concepts to professionals.
