I am teaching a four day seminar on multimedia reporting to Web journalists for France 24. France 24 is A CNN-style 24/7 video and Web news organization designed for a French audience.
I was hired as a consultant to New York City-based Mignon-Media and have been working closely with Jeff Mignon for months in preparation to make this the best possible training event possible.
The studios are first-class, state-of-the art. Uber-impressive.
The editor-in-chief, Karine Broyer, gave me a tour while they were broadcasting and then she came to attend the class. I can tell you right now that impresses me the most. When the editor comes to class.
I have, without fail, witnessed over the years that when the editor goes to class with staff that the training takes hold.

Private client training in Paris, France.
A quick film update,
I have arrived in Berlin after an all too short visit in Paris where I spent time with cherished colleagues and made new ones at the IFRA and SND joint visual journalism confab. It was a two day event held in the Trocadero district (Across from Eiffel tower) at the ultra-luxe Apple executive briefing center. Some video to follow - I filled three tapes over two days, SOTs (Interviews and pieces to camera), sequences in the rain (the never-ending rain!) and plenty of B-roll.

The week working with journalists, publishers, editors and students has finished and it’s on to Paris for a lecture on Web video for IFRA and SND.

I shot and shared a lot of film here in Cairo and a few new movies will follow as I steal time away to edit them into worthwhile films. The crowd attending the IFRA/SND gig at the Apple Executive Briefing centre will be the first to see the new stuff I have developed from my recent experiences with producing Camp VJ and other video and new media training events in Canada, Croatia, Pennsylvania, Italy and Germany.
The visual journalism event in France will have me placed along the Seine River facing the Eiffel Tower. Should be nice break to only have one event scheduled for three days and I will take the chance to dine with Parisian colleagues and catch up on things. At least I will not go hungry!
I’ll be presenting “Web Video is Not Television!” at the IFRA International Conference “Design for newspapers and magazines” in Paris.
The event will place at the Executive Briefing Center Apple in Paris on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 May.
This event will be a unique occasion that will bring together those who
are confronted by the demands of newspaper design on a daily basis…
Topics include:
- Best newspapers and magazines design experiences worldtour ;
- How design for the web differs from print design?
- Videos connecting with the online audience ;
- Good web quality practice applied to design ;
- Motion design ;
- New trends in print, web and video design.
