Allowing readers individualized entry points and routes through the content, while using the latest advances in visualization techniques.
Watch the video walk through below. These Cell Press and Elsevie article designs don’t use Flash, and yet, they don’t conceive of publishing articles without visuals. The designs promote transparency, interaction, and links to establish authority and reward contributors.

Visual editor, Ryan Huddle posted an impressive gallery of Harry Potter themed pages in the gallery on Visual Editors. (See slideshow embedded below)
He writes that his newspaper, the Victoria Advocate, had “a lot of success with the Victoria Prophet single pages we did in 2007. This year we went bigger and better with an entire section. We turned our weekly entertainment section into the Victoria Prophet with local feature stories, Advertising, Games, and we even have ads for the busniesses in the world of Harry Potter.”
In a time of contraction for some U.S. newsrooms it is heartening to see a paper take an idea like this and run with it and really, really do it right.

Today I taught a magazine design at Cairo University, Faculty of Mass Communication and in the afternoon returned to finish the last day of my four day design workshop at the Supreme Press Council.
It’s been an adventurous 30 days in Egypt training student and professional journalists under the Media Development Program.
