Last year I worked with Time.com’s Craig Duff to deliver a series of video workshops at America East. America East is a huge newspaper exhibition and conference and attracts top speakers and delegates from all over the country.
I can’t wait to get back to Hershey and work with Pennsylvania editors again. This is the first trip of many that I will be making to the state in 2009. I will be producing at least four more training events in Harrisburg and visiting up to a dozen newspapers this year for private consults and coaching for their multimedia initiatives. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work!

Multimedia reporting tools at America East in Hershey
Camp Video Journalism - Orlando focused on training the next generation of educators. We had several K-12 teachers as well as college students taking the course and while I could certainly write more about MY impressions from the sessions, I think it might be more beneficial to relay the feedback I just got from Camp VJ student and Kalamazoo, Michigan educator Anthony Gettig.
Thank you so much for CampVJ Orlando! Lance, Kristen, and I really enjoyed our time in this beautiful city and learned so much during our stay.

Today I taught a magazine design at Cairo University, Faculty of Mass Communication and in the afternoon returned to finish the last day of my four day design workshop at the Supreme Press Council.
It’s been an adventurous 30 days in Egypt training student and professional journalists under the Media Development Program.

Web Video journalism for newspapers
Fundamentals of camera usage, shooting sequences, interviewing and the importance of audio, simple story forms and basic edits. Participants will film and edit and post videos in group and individual critiques. This is a multi-day course for a small group of participants and includes a lot of hands-on coaching and feedback.

I am so proud to be teaching video journalism to more and more print reporters. And humbled by the amazing volunteer contributions of colleagues old and new that are donating their time and expertise to the Camp Video Journalism training workshops.
Today I am preparing two lectures that I will be giving in Bucharest October 2-3 for the World Editors Forum Master Class series but last week I was joined in the Chicago Sun-Times classroom by my former Sun-Times colleague, Carol Marin and some new CampVJ instructors: Danielle Guerra, Mark Flescher and Aaron Cahan.
