What are the most valuable social networks for journalists?

Gothenburg, SWEDEN:

A quick note and query from the end of the night at the World Editors Forum. I was just recalling a conversation held a few moments ago with London-based Reuters colleague Vincent Baby who, at one point in the conversation, said something like “You’ve invited me to join like 60 social networks over the last year . . .” and he’s not far from wrong.

OK. in reality it has been maybe a few, less than dozen certainly.

I told Vincent that in times of transition and new enterprise it is important to understand new tools, discover new connections to clients and sources and keep the conversation going - wherever the conversation that is relevant to you is taking place - be it on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, VizEds, Plazes, Doppler, e-mail or your blog.

The social networks I use now everyday (or almost every day) include Del.icio.us, Facebook, VizEds, Evernote, Scribd, Plazes and get updates from others including LinkedIn, Dopplr last.fm and Plaxo.

Some of these have been worth exploring, and that is why invite my colleagues, after all . . . to join me on the journey to find footing in the new media landscape and the networked journalism era.

So tell me - what social networks do you use regularly as a journalist?
