Why I took my photos and videos off Facebook

What Facebooks revised terms of use mean for your content

What Facebook's revised terms of use mean for your content

“You are granting Facebook a pretty broad license to use your content that cannot be revoked, is perpetual (it never expires) and if they use your material you cannot claim any kind of royalty or fee. The new terms are worldwide.

It is not just the user content that you post but also your name, your likeness and your image to be used for any purpose including commercial or advertising uses.”

Listen to lawyer Paul Jacobson crisply walk you through Facebok’s new terms of service.

What Facebook’s revised terms of use mean for your content

Yeah, It seems they have figured out how to monetize Facebook now and I just hope that the young users who use post content there realize that the rules of the game have changed - and not to their benefit.

After removing photos and videos, I also removed all applications from my profile that contained content that Facebook could now lay claim to. LinkedIn contacts, music playlists, applications I developed and so on. I am only keeping travel and workshop event notices on my profile as that information has no residual value after the event passes.

So what will I still use Facebook for?

Direct messaging people if e-mail is unresponsive.
    Popping status updates.
    Linking to cool stuff.
    Promoting training workshops.
    Not much else.

This is where my original, copyrighted content lives online.

So, will you be taking down your content from Facebook?

    Robb,

I’m a new (and obviously naive) photography who is working on a book with friend. It’s a coffee table book and some friends had asked for me to post some of my pics on my profile. I created a 16 pic album on Wed of this week and got lots of great comments. Today when I logged into Facebook, my pics from that album were gone - only “?” were in the picture blocks. The album still looked like it existed but with no pictures. I had not put security limits on the album the pictures were not copyrighted yet. (Again new and naive.) Could someone have taken the pics off my profile???

I’ve emailed Facebook and am awaiting a response from them. But I’d love to know your thoughts. You can go to my Facebook and reply if this post doesn’t give you a way to contact me. I’m Jenifer Roser in Charlotte, NC.

Thank you for taking a moment with this.

I never added much content to begin with.

I wonder if Jenifer is dealing with a caching issue of some sort.

I took my info off facebook over a year ago after reading an article that talked about those things.

Turns out a facebook rumour started that I was getting divorced. I have since abandoned my old account and started a new one where I don’t use my real name, don’t use my normal email, don’t put up pictures and don’t put up anything. I just network and that’s it.
