Video: Rush on Colbert Report

Not only was Rush playing live on Wednesday’s show - the entire show was Rush-themed and pretty damn funny. “Jimmy” is obviously a theatrical construction - clearly Stephen Colbert is a huge fan of the band’s music. As am I. Colbert even played “Limelight” instead of his normal theme music and he read the lyrics to By-Tor and the Snow dog . . . oh yeah, he is a huge fan.

In fact I saw them last Wednesday play the Molson Ampitheatre on Toronto’s harbourfront. That was made possible by the editor-in-chief of The Globe and Mail who took me up on my standing “Will consult for Rush tickets” offer and it was good trade.
I had great seats, thanks Ed and Adrian!

Speaking of By-Tor . . . Cue the band . . .

It was great seeing all 3 of them together. Typically Alex and Geddy alone will appear for any type of interview or signing session. Clearly they were going to perform a song so Neils presence was a requirement yet I sense that even if they had not performed and were only interviewed by Stephen, he would have been there. I think Neil has opened up to the public at large more than ever and I hand it to him for all that he’s been through to be more available to the audience who clearly love him and the band. The greatest band ever IMO and as far as the R&RHOF, I don’t care in the least if they are ever inducted into that place. Rush are musicians musicians and do not need to be on the same shelf as a bunch of pop stars and looks before talent one hit wonders.
