I finally have edited down the photos to post here on the blog from my holiday last week. I have been on the road since November 14 when I left Chicago for Dehli, India. It was nice to unplug the laptop and have a few days of extreme camping.
Trek along with me and see a fascinating desert few Western tourists ever get to visit. Everywhere there are fossils and evidence of an ancient sea that once teemed here. shells, petrified coral, sea vent volcanos and amazing skies.
I camped on giant sand dunes during the largest full moon of 2008 and that light lent a special magic to the whole experience. I got to play my guitar each night around the campfire and mixed up Arabic flute, Bedouin chants and Shisha (flavored tobacco!) to create some new songs.
Here are some lyrics I just wrote to convey the feeling. (note: this is just the first draft . . .)
A phantom nirvana is a desert mirage
Tempting me. Haunting me.
Her shadows play tricks on my eyesBut a seamless sand shower cleanses my soul and the global lover makes me whole
Motehrabäs!In the White Desert magnetic stars draw me closer
Yella bina habibi,
The blinkie hour is soon overIn the waters of chaos
The parallel universe is born
beyond the oasis and into the dreamworld I drownDescend. Descend with me to these worlds below
Of course, I never really stop working and I filled many video tapes with pieces to cameras, voice-overs, B-Roll and interview material to support future films I will be producing. Stay tuned and if you need tips on traveling to this Bedouin wonderland, please ping me via the contact form.
Note: The conditions are primitive and the travel is rough, but the memories of the temporary discomfort fade quickly!
Wonderful photos of incredible sites.
