Mobiles are the new internet
Why are we jazzed about mobile media? Because mobiles are going to be the interactive media story for 2007.
Mobile phones are rapidly evolving into truly magic lamps and savvy media companies are lining up to make sure that you rub THEIR Genie when you want local questions answered, interactive news and personalized information. More Americans will be using their mobile for search, GPS assistance, news, vids, and more.
Gannett and The New York Times are just two biggies in the U.S. who are ramping up their hiring for mobile media executives. Apple’s new plans and Google’s notion of giving away free cell phones (if you don’t mind having their digital ads on them) should divine for you where the leaders of big media see the future.
If you think these are far-out notions you may want to take a look at these concept prototypes for future Nokia phones.

Of course there is no keyboard! Engadget said of the October 2005 idea: “The bracelet-like 888 is envisioned to use a liquid battery, feature speech recognition, a flexible touch screen, and a touch sensitive body cover. A video showing off the device’s potential features shows off close to a dozen functions, including an alarm clock, PDA, GPS, phone, push email receiver, digital wallet and, of course, jewelry.”
But that was before the mobile video and GPS revolutions.

12 million of Apple’s new iPhone are being made in China right now.
Apple will launch the mobile handsets in the first half of next year, the newspaper said, without providing financial details of the contract.
Ending years of rumors and false reports FORBES is sticking it’s neck out and confirming early reports that have been circulating on many Apple rumor sites and message boards that a Chinese newspaper - the Commercial Times - was the outfit that originally broke the story.
I would have hoped that by now we would see one with a video player instead of merely music but you never know for sure until Uncle Steve says “and, one more thing” the morning of January 9, 2007 at MacWorld come January. I am making my travel plans right now to be there - how ’bout you?
